Brighten the Corners

BTC Show #327 – 8/27/13 including Big Star links

Just saw the new Big Star documentary Nothing Can Hurt Me at The Paramount tonight…great stuff!

I happened to be at SXSW in Austin, TX the year Alex Chilton died & it was quite a moving tribute show to witness that year, where Evan Dando, M. Ward, John Doe, Mike Mills & tons more paid tribute through song at the legendary Antone’s.  Some of that concert ended up in the documentary, but doesn’t sound like (according to one of the filmmakers who was in town for the screening) the full show will see the light of day anytime soon.

I also happened to be at the University of Missouri the year Big Star reunited in the early 90s…a reunion inspired by a couple of simple phone calls made by a couple of my cohorts at the college radio station (KCOU) at the time!  Wish I could say the 2 guys in question were good friends of mine, but they were definitely more of the “cool older brother” type whom I was way too intimidated to befriend during that stage of my life, ha!
