#WorkdayWrapUp – parts/pieces theme 5/29

Every Weekday at 6pm, we do a request hour with a different theme, started by the New Song of the Day.  Here’s what actually got played among the requests tonight…

This theme was originally inspired by the title of our New Song Of The Day, then I remembered the 80’s fast food commercial that made “Parts is Parts” a household phrase.  And then someone requested the classic Johnny Cash song that opened up the theme for further “piece” requests…well, for those that thought it was kind of odd to choose this theme the same week we are giving away tix to an amazing event involving Wounded Warriors, know that if I ruled the world, those soldiers who have such a long road of recovery ahead of them after coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan with injured limbs (among other horrific injuries of the never-ending “war on terror”) would be the LEAD story on TV news every…single…night until the public demanded they all be brought home!  Although depending on when my hypothetical reign over the world began, they wouldn’t have been sent to Iraq or Afghanistan in the first place!  CNN did a nice tribute called “100 faces, 100 hours” over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, reminding us all of just how many have given the ultimate sacrifice (8000 and counting), just in the past 10+ years, in just those 2 parts of the world.  And then there are the days like a little over a year ago, where 101 troops are killed, in ONE day, in a country not named Afghanistan or Iraq (Yemen).  My apologies if you thought the theme was in bad taste – as a peace offering, how about giving some $$ to the Wounded Warrior Project, and thanks for the requests…all we can all do is try to do our best, and then do better tomorrow, right?
