Captain Kirk receives NASA honor

“Star Trek” icon William Shatner has been feted with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s highest civilian honor.

The veteran actor, famed for his role as beloved space explorer Captain James Tiberius Kirk in the TV and film franchise, was presented with NASA’s Distinguished Public Service medal at a Los Angeles gala on Saturday, in recognition of his efforts to encourage youngsters to pursue studies in science and mathematics.
