Despite Twitter prank, Flaming Lips say they’re not breaking up

The Flaming Lips have assured fans they’re not splitting up after hackers announced the end of the band in what appeared to be an official tweet on Thursday.

It took frontman Wayne Coyne just 18 minutes to correct the news as fans panicked about a post, which read: “We have sad news. We’ve broken up…”

The singer took to his own account to tell concerned fans, “The Flaming Lips twitter has been hijacked!!!!”

The imposters didn’t stop with their pranks, however, and continued to post odd tweets, including one which urged fans to buy boy band Union J’s new single and a request for Justin Bieber to follow them.
