A collection of poems, short stories and drawings by John Lennon is to go under the hammer in New York later this year.

The manuscripts written by the Beatles legend have been kept in a drawer for 50 years by publishing boss Tom Maschler, but will be sold off at Sotheby’s auction house in New York in June.

Most of the documents were produced by Lennon in connection with two books of poetry, drawings and musings which he released in 1964 and 1965, “In His Own Write” and “A Spaniard In The Works.”

The sale’s center piece is a handwritten draft of “The Singular Experience Of Miss Anne Duffield,” Lennon’s longest piece of prose, which is expected to fetch as much as $60,000.

Other items include a drawing of a four-eyed guitarist, valued at as much as $25,000, and another of a boy with six birds, which is expected to draw bids as high as $15,000.

The items, which have been on display at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, will also be shown at Sotheby’s London between March 21 and March 25 ahead of the New York auction on June 4.
