NASHVILLE (AP) — Ray LaMontagne is getting more comfortable with the idea of revealing a bit more about himself in his music. LaMontagne describes the songs on his new album, “Supernova,” as “a very unguarded Ray.”

He says he might have been hesitant to put them forward before, even to his band at the time.

LaMontagne says this time he feels he can be less critical about his songs.

Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys produced the album and put together the backing band for “Supernova.”

LaMontagne had not even met any of the musicians before working with them.
