Advisory Panel On 29 Congestion Sees More Rival Options

Advisory Panel On 29 Congestion Sees More Rival Options

The latest phase of the long-running debate over how to reduce traffic congestion on 29 North has included a new look at alternative options. Former VDOT Commissioner Philip Shucet (pictured) spent part of a Thursday session showing an advisory panel a short list of possibilities for the 29 corridor. They include enhancements to roads that already parallel 29, and the long-debated possibility of an expressway. City Councilor Kristin Szakos serves on the advisory panel. She has advised Shucet and panel members who don’t live in our area about the value of stoplights. Szakos also wants to avoid a situation that creates a hopeless botteneck. She’s serving on a panel with representatives of Lynchburg and other communities that want fewer hassles for drivers who use 29 to get through this area. The group will hold its fourth and final meting on May 8th.
