Appeals Court Upholds Huguely Conviction

The conviction of George Huguely in the the fatal beating of Yeardley Love will stand. The Virginia Court of Appeals  is upholding the second-degree murder conviction against Huguely. His attorneys argued their client was denied the 6th Amendment right to counsel when lawyer Rhonda Quagliana became ill during the trial. Huguely’s appeal also raised questions about jury selection and instructions to the jury. Love was found dead in her apartment in May 2010 after Huguely kicked a hole in her bedroom door and beat her after a day of heavy drinking. The incident happened just before the two were to graduate from UVA. Huguely could try to take his appeal next to the Virginia Supreme Court.
