Three people who believe Virginia’s coastal areas are vulnerable to rising sea levels want our elected leaders to do something about it. A scientist at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, the executive director of Wetlands Watch, and the director of the Virginia Sea Grant program have outlined their goals for the Weldon Cooper Center at UVA. They want Virginia to find a way to adapt to threats of rising sea levels. Meanwhile, retired engineer and physician Charles Battig (pictured) has outlined his research to the Albemarle Supervisors. Battig says global temperatures have not changed for 17 years. Many of the same issues are also getting attention in Richmond. Governor McAuliffe has created what he calls a Climate Change and Resiliency Update Commission.
