Cameras To Catch Drivers Going Past Stopped School Buses

Some Albemarle school buses will have video cameras. It’s an effort to catch drivers who pass a stopped school bus. County schools transportation director Jim Foley says they hope to have the cameras operating this coming winter. The owner of the vehicle will be assessed a fine, so it doesn’t matter who’s driving the offending car. The video of a violator will be sent to a vendor who will determine the outcome of the case. Foley says school bus drivers already have a lot on their hands with multi-tasking, and they don’t have the time to write down the license plate of an offender.
