City Council Gets Feedback On Belmont Bridge

Many people who are neighbors of the Belmont Bridge mobilized at City Hall Monday night for a public hearing. Hunter Smith of Bolling Avenue is a businessman who supports a proposed underpass. Smith and other underpass fans don’t want a replacement bridge that looks like the current 1961 structure. Wolf Braun of Little High Street believes Charlottesville can do better than an underpass. He contends an underpass does not fit into the region’s topography. Downtown resident Rebecca Quinn (pictured) has cautioned the City Councilors about buidling more tall structures. The councilors will revisit the issue at one of their July meetings.
