City School Board Makes More Budget Cuts

The Charlottesville School Board has made additional budget cuts for the next academic year. It will trim more than $131,000 from its spending plan. Finance Director Ed Gillaspie says the reductions include a smaller version of a pre-school program. School board member Ned Michie has objected to scaling back the pre-school program. Michie (pictured) suggested Thursday night that the board make a slight reduction in the approved pay raises for employees. His idea was rejected by the other six board members, and teachers will get a 1.5% boost in salaries plus a step increase.
