GM Recall Impacts Driver’s Ed Cars For Charlottesville Teens

There’s been a nationwide recall by General Motors and it affects both cars which the Charlottesville schools use for driver’s education. Finance Director Ed Gillaspie says the two vehicles are 2004 Chevy Malibus, and each has gone roughly 100,000 miles. It might take six weeks or so for a new car to be delivered. Gillaspie says students who are itching to get behind the wheel can try the Albemarle schools or the private driving schools. The city charges $175 for behind-the-wheel, while Albemarle charges $229, and the private sector schools cost more. The City School Board has authorized spending $15,000-$20,000 for a new car which will be used by students at Charlottesville High School (pictured). The school division has sent out emails to families with kids who signed up for driver’s ed in the fall semester.
