The prosecution will rest its case by Thursday. That’s what government attorneys have told a federal judge in the McDonnells’ trial. The jury will take Friday off while both sides work on motions. An FBI agent testified that the former first couple once had more than $90,000 in credit card debt and that a family real estate partnership lost more than $80,000 in just two years. Sessoms said McDonnell never mentioned debts to Jonnie Williams in his application to refinance. A defense attorney says the Williams loans went to Maureen McDonnell and to a company owned by the former governor and his sister. Bob McDonnell was the sole borrower on the TowneBank loan. Sessoms says a corporate debt technically does not have to be listed on an individual financial statement, but a bank needs to know about shared debts.
