RWSA Considers Higher Wholesale Water Rates

You can expect higher water bills in the future. The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority is considering a nearly 14% increase in the wholesale water rates for the city. The Albemarle County Service Authority could see a nearly 11% spike in the wholesale water rate. RWSA Director Tom Frederick (pictured left) says a granular-activated carbon filtering system will begin in the next budget year, and it will impact the rates. Frederick has told City Manager Maurice Jones (pictured right) and other members of the RWSA board that the treatment plants in Crozet and Scottsville will also get upgrades. The RWSA will hold a public hearing on the proposed rate increases at 2 p,m. on April 22nd. That hearing will take place at the authority’s headquarters on Moore’s Creek Lane.
