Survey Shows Most Virginians Oppose Medicaid Expansion

Survey Shows Most Virginians Oppose Medicaid Expansion

Most Virginians oppose Governor McAuliffe’s push to expand the Commonwealth’s Medicaid rolls. That’s the bottom line from a recent survey by the Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy. The results were released Thursday by Christopher Newport University in Newport News. It found 53% of the Virginians it surveyed don’t want to see up to 400 thousand new Medicaid recipients. CNU pollsters say 56% of survey respondents wanted to expand the Medicaid rolls in February. The shift in public opinion suggests the Republican majority in the House of Delegates is winning a tug-of-war with Democrats over Medicaid policy. The questions surrounding Medicaid funding have been the biggest stumbling block for the General Assembly as it struggles to adopt a new budget.
