Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne is optimistic that a $230 million list of road improvments will make Route 29 less of a hassle for drivers. Layne says VDOT will be flexible when it tackles big-ticket items such as the Rio Road at 29 North intersection. Layne has also told the Albemarle Supervisors he’s looked at the properties that were in the right-of-way of the Western Bypass. He says VDOT wants to be a good neighbor to areas of the county with abandoned houses. That project is currently off-the-table.
