Virginia’s latest crime totals have been released and most categories had lower numbers last year than what we saw in 2012. Murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault went down 1.6%. Homicide held steady, but fraud increased 7.6%. There were 123 hate crimes last year. Nearly two thirds were racially or ethnically motivated, and most of the rest involved bias toward someone’s religion or sexual orientation. The remaining 4% were attributed to mental and physical disabilities.
