Carol Burnett receives Mark Twain Award

WASHINGTON (AP) — Carol Burnett says she has never smoked pot — but says being able to make people laugh is the best kind of high you can get.

She must have been in bliss last night — as she saw her fellow comedians describe how her work made her feel.

She was honored as this year’s recipient of the Mark Twain Award for Comedy.

Joining her at the Kennedy Center were Tim Conway and Vicki Lawrence.

Lawrence says she’d be a dental hygienist had it not been for Burnett’s generosity. She says she once wrote her a fan letter — and Burnett came out to see her act — and encouraged her to go forward in show business.

Several of her fellow comics mentioned how Burnett has been generous with her time and talent over the years.
