ACE Academy Lambs Lane to welcome students on Wednesday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle Career Exploration Academy at Lambs Lane is finally set to open, a month after Albemarle County Public Schools got the school year started. Students will begin attending classes at the facility on Wednesday, ACPS spokesperson Jason Grant told Cville Right Now.

The building will be opening after its doors were closed through the first four weeks of the school year due to a delay in the construction. ACE Academy students have been taking classes at the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia’s Albemarle Campus.

Now, the building has received a temporary occupancy permit and has been authorized to hold up to 400 people. An official opening is being planned for some time in the next few weeks.

The delay was initially announced by ACPS on July 31, with the division anticipating it to last through the first three weeks of the school year.

While the reasoning for the delay was unclear, Grant told Cville Right Now in August the contractor had “targets” to hit so the facility could receive an occupancy permit.

“Even once you could get to occupancy, there’s still punch-list items and others that need to occur,” he said. “So, that activity is ongoing.”
