December 20, 2018, Albemarle County Police News Release

Detectives with the Albemarle County Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have arrested 37year-old Robert Christopher Henderson of Albemarle County and charged him with Second Degree Murder.

Henderson is accused of murdering Angela Lynn Lax in June of 2018.

Angela Lax was reported missing to law enforcement on August 09, 2018, by friends after they had not had contact with her for approximately two months. After investigators exhausted several leads in the case, the decision was made to expand the scope of the search from Lax’s possible last known location.

On November 8, 2018, ACPD detectives and members of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) were conducting an expanded search in the 1200 block of the John W. Warner Parkway when they discovered scattered human skeletal remains in the woods along the parkway’s trails. The remains were recovered by law enforcement and sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond, Virginia for examination. DNA and other forensic evidence collected by police have led investigators to believe that the recovered skeletal remains are those of Angela Lynn Lax. Police suspect that Lax was killed in Albemarle County and her body was disposed of in the woods along the John W. Warner Parkway. Through the course of this investigation, detectives identified Robert Christopher Henderson as a suspect in Lax’s disappearance and murder.

Detectives have been working closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on this investigation. The Albemarle County Police Department would like to thank VDEM, the Virginia State Police, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for all of their assistance and support during this investigation.

Robert Christopher Henderson is currently being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call Detective Andrew Holmes at 434-296-5807.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation and no additional information will be released at this time. Any further inquiries should be directed toward the Albemarle County Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.
