Fifth Anniversary Of Louisa Quake

Five years have now passed since a magnitude 5.8 earthquake shook up Louisa County. Longtime residents of communities such as Mineral say they will never forget the afternoon of August 23rd, 2011 when a quake rattled their homes and businesses shortly before 2 p.m.

There were no major injuries, but hundreds of homes and commercial enterprises were damaged. As a result of the quake, Louisa County had to replace two schools. They were Louisa County High School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. Bob McDonnell (pictured in grey suit with red striped tie), who was the Governor in 2011, toured Louisa County High with educators and others.

The earthquake was felt as far west as Chicago and as far north as New York.
