STANARDSVILLE (WINA) – 62-year old Greene County Supervisor David L. Cox is among two men arrested charged with a felony from alleged illegal farming. Cox was arrested May 24 along with 55-year old Richard W. Eppard — also a Stanardsville resident.
Both turned themselves in to State Police after a May 23 grand jury handed up one felony indictment count to each of grand larceny. State Police’s Corinne Geller says it involves growing hay on Greene County property for personal gain. The grand larceny count is based on the value of the hay allegedly grown.
State Police initiated an investigation in March. Greene County Commowealth’s Attorney Matthew Hardin declined to give any details in an ongoing case.
Greene County Supervisors Chair Bill Martin sent the following to an inquiry from WSVA Radio in Harrisonburg:
“I am aware that Supervisor Cox has been charged with a crime. Mr. Cox is presumed to be innocent and he is legally entitled to the benefits of that presumption. Therefore, there is no reason for his service as Greene County’s Monroe District Supervisor to be interrupted or otherwise disturbed by the pendency of such matter.
I have copied County Administrator Mark Taylor here. “
