RICHMOND (WINA) – The Virginia State Senator who has twice traveled to Syria to express support for Bashar al-Assad says he’s retiring at the end of his term. Loudoun County Republican Richard Black in a Facebook post says he’s “looking forward to the next chapter”.
Black came to prominence in the Leesburg area in the ’90s mounting a campaign to filter public library computers from pornography. Local boards in Loudoun and Prince William counties passed such ordinances at the time… ordinances nearly all Virginia localities have.
Among legislative accomplishments he lists over his 20 years in the General Assembly is being chief patron of legislation requiring parental consent before minors get an abortion.
Black was a delegate from 1998 until 2006 after losing a 2005 re-election bid. However, he won the 13th District Senate election in 2011 and has served in that position since 2012.
