(CHARLOTTESVILLE – WINA) The founder of the Albemarle-based Rutherford Institute has weighed in on a recent independent review of Charlottesville’s response to the chaotic events of last spring and summer. John Whitehead characterizes the lead-up and response to the August 12th “Unite the Right” rally at Emancipation Park as a total disaster. Whitehead also contends that leaving 4th Street open what paved the way for Heather Heyer’s death. He describes the report compiled by Tim Heaphy and the Hunton and Williams law firm as accurate.
The McAuliffe administration compiled a separate report, and Whitehead is disappointed that state officials chose to quietly post those findings online. He would have preferred a full-fledged release of the state’s report.
