UPDATE: At 3:45 p.m., Albemarle County Police announced it had apprehended one of three suspects in a Charlottesville city shooting incident. CPD previously caught a 14-year-old juvenile after a car chase that ended on Scottsville Road. The third suspect is still believed to be at-large.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Police are searching for two suspects in a Monday night shots-fired incident. Charlottesville police chased three suspects in a stolen car from the scene at approximately 10:22 p.m., apprehending a 14-year-old juvenile who suffered minor injuries.

Two other male suspects, wearing black hoodies, fled into the woods near Scottsville Road, where the pursuit ended, prompting Albemarle County Police, who were assisting with the pursuit, to issue shelter-in-place advisories and close sections of the road around midnight and again just before noon.

The chase began when CPD officers on foot patrol in the 1000 block of 1st Street South heard multiple gunshots in the immediate area.

“Upon arriving at the scene, officers located and collected 49 cartridge casings,” according to a CPD release. “While responding to the initial shots-fired call, a CPD officer observed a vehicle fleeing the area at a high rate of speed and running a red light on Avon Street. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen earlier in the day, failed to yield to officers, initiating a pursuit. The chase ended in the 3000 block of Scottsville Road, where an AR-style rifle was recovered from the vehicle.”

Tuesday morning, just after midnight, ACPD put out a shelter-in-place advisory for the 3400 block of Scottsville Road, closing that roadway from Hillsdale Farm to Thorn Rose Lane. That order was lifted at 2 a.m.

Then, Tuesday, ACPD reported a large police presence at the 3800 block of Scottsville Road, issuing a new shelter-in-place advisory and closing the roadway, in both directions. The area is between the Triple-C Camp and Red Hill Road, about a mile north of where the overnight closure occurred.
