Charlottesville man charged with multiple auto break-ins in the Fishersville area

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – On August 19, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office notified the community of multiple reported vehicle break-ins in the Teaverton subdivision in the Fishersville area. A joint investigation was initiated by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Staunton Police Department.

As a result, Durron Ashton Harris, 21, of Charlottesville, has been charged with following:

18.2-192- Felony Credit Card Larceny

5 Counts of 18.2-96- Petit Larceny

8 Counts of 18.2-147- Entering or setting in motion a vehicle with the intent to commit a crime, malicious mischief, or injury thereto.

Harris is currently being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.

“Thanks to quick community reporting and strong collaboration with the Staunton Police Department, we were able to identify a suspect and move swiftly toward accountability,” said Sheriff Donald L. Smith in a statement. “We will continue to work with our regional partners to protect our neighborhoods and remind residents to lock vehicles and remove valuables to help deter opportunistic crime.”

The case remains an active investigation. Anyone with additional information, home surveillance footage, or unreported incidents in the Teaverton area is asked to contact the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office at 540-245-5333.
