Charlottesville resident, JMU professor pleads guilty to possession of childhood pornography

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — The James Madison University professor who was charged for possession of child pornography has pleaded guilty.

According to online records, William Chisholm Van Norman pleaded guilty to two felony charges during a Thursday arraignment hearing in Charlottesville Circuit Court.

One of the charges is possession of child pornography, second offense.

The alleged offenses occurred last December and the 68-year-old Van Norman was arrested on April 29th following a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

He will be sentenced on January 22, 2026.
