CPD warns of scam from someone impersonating an officer

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville Police reporting a scam happening now that has happened in communities over the years, someone impersonating a police officer saying the victim missed court dates and must pay up. CPD says this latest episode spoofs a callback number saying “Charlottesville Sheriff”. Charlottesville Police tell the community they’ll never call someone on the phone demanding payment or personal information. Always check the official city websites for proper contact information if you’re unsure.

CPD asks anyone receiving a suspicious call or believe they may be the target of a scam, please report it immediately to at (434) 970-3280.
