CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – New campaign finance disclosures show all three Democrats in the statewide races raised more money than their Republican counterparts, while Samuel Miller District Albemarle Supervisors candidate Fred Missel ranks among the top local office fundraisers in the Commonwealth.

In the top three races, Democrats Abigail Spanberger and Ghazala Hashmi, nominees for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, outraised Republicans Winsome Earle-Sears and John Reid respectively, and also have far more cash on-hand.

In the Attorney General’s race, Democrat Jay Jones, for the first time, outraised Republican incumbent Jason Miyares by a slight margin, but Miyares nearly doubles Jones with cash on-hand.

In the two months of July and August in the Samuel Miller race, Democrat Fred Missel raised some $26,400 to Republican Scott Smith’s $8410. Missel’s two-month tally was 3rd-most of any local candidate in Virginia, and he has a statewide lead of more than $35,000 cash on-hand. Smith’s fundraising for the two months was 16th in the Commonwealth, with just over $9200 cash on-hand.

In the two school board races, current Charlottesville School Board chair Emily Dooley raised the most in July and August at $1894, and the most cash on-hand with $5081. Zy Bryant raised the second-most, but way behind, at $360. However, she has a competitive $4968 cash on-hand. Lisa Larsen-Torres raised $175 with $2289 cash-on-hand. Dashad Cooper trails with no money raised in the two-month period with $1636 cash-on-hand.

In the Albemarle Rio District School Board race, Jim Dillenback raised $850 July and August with $32o4 cash on-hand to Leslie Pryor’s $300 and $300 respectively.

In the statewide races, in the Governor’s race, Spanberger raised some $14-million in July and August and has $12.2-million cash on-hand. Earle-Sears raised $5.2-million in that same period with $4.9-million cash on-hand.

The race for Lieutenant Governor has Hashmi raising some $1.4-million in the two-month period with $2.2-million cash on-hand. Reid raised just $314,000 in the period with $316,000 cash on-hand. That cash-on hand also greatly trails a write-in candidate in Republican John Curran who has $994,000. Curren does not report any July and August fundraising.

The Attorney General’s race has Jones, who has trailed badly in fundraising to Miyares, slightly outraising Miyares in the July and August period. Jones took in $4-million to Miyares’ $3.8-million. However, Miyares has $7.1-million cash on-hand to Jones’ $3.7-miilion.

The two area House races have Democrats Amy Laufer in the 54th District and Katrina Callsen in the 55th District unopposed. Overall, in House races across the state, Democrats raised a total $8.9-million in July and August with about $10-million cash on-hand. Republicans raised $4.4-million with $8.2-million cash on-hand.
