CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (Cville Right Now) – Former Albemarle County general registrar Lauren Eddy is being investigated by the Albemarle County Police Department for allegations of financial misconduct, the county confirmed Monday.

Eddy resigned on Aug. 12, the day after the investigation was announced in minutes from the Albemarle County Electoral Board’s Aug. 11 meeting.

“We can confirm that ACPD is conducting a criminal investigation that involves Lauren Eddy and allegations of financial misconduct related to her former role with the County of Albemarle,” county spokesperson Abbey Stumpf told Cville Right Now. “No formal charges have been obtained at this time.”

The board has two meetings scheduled this week, but the investigation is not on either agenda, board chairperson Clara Belle Wheeler told Cville Right Now.

As of Monday morning, no agendas had been posted for the board’s two sessions, one their regularly scheduled meeting and one an additional meeting.

Early in-person voting for this November’s elections are scheduled to start Sept. 19.
