Jay James Discusses UVA Coach Tony Bennett’s Contract Extension

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UVA Men’s Basketball Coach Tony Bennett has extended his contract. Jay James, host of WINA Morning News, joined to discuss the impact of this development. Bennett, the all-time leader in wins at UVA, boasts a 70% winning rate and led the team to its first national championship in 2019. He is celebrated not only for his coaching success but also for his emphasis on character and high graduation rates among his players.

James highlighted Bennett’s adaptability in the changing landscape of college sports, particularly with the use of the transfer portal. “He’s been very successful in the transfer portal with five new additions, and he’s having to adjust just like everybody is”

James also underscored Bennett’s unique approach to coaching, which focuses on building human beings, not just athletes. “He’s not just about flashy play, he’s about really building human beings.”

“It’s a great day for the University of Virginia,” James said. “Tony Bennett’s impact, Courtney, cannot be understated. He is the all-time leader in wins at the University of Virginia.”

Overall, this extension is seen as a significant win for UVA, striving for more outstanding achievements under Bennett’s leadership.
