SCOTTSVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Scottsville Library opened June 4, 1959, and the JMRL is celebrating its 65th birthday Tuesday. Jefferson Madison Regional Library Director David Plunkett, Scottsville Mayor Ron Smith, and other leaders will be on-hand from 3-to-5pm… including Smith’s band Four Hits and A Miss playing music. Author Ruth Klippstein will sign copies of her book Stories From Scottsville: Tales of a Small Virginia Town… and goodies from Baked on the James will be served. There will also be a commemorative 65th anniversary plaque unveiling.
The library moved to its current location in 1965, then had to be rebuilt two years after burning from a 1980 lightning strike. The columns preserved from the original building now reside in the Children’s Area, and were painted with nature murals by a local artist in 2022.
