CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- One of the most promising recent football prospects in Virginia has made his choice for the 2026 season. Louisa High School running back and Mineral native Savion Hiter committed to Michigan on Tuesday.

Hiter is a 5-star recruit, the 17th best high school player in the nation, and the top-ranked running back.  According to 247sports, Hiter eschewed interest from three different SEC schools (Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee), and the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes to play for the Wolverines.

Hiter will join a Wolverines squad reeling from a significant financial blow to the program thanks to the recent spying scandal.  They have a deep running back room but have had a stellar success record in the ground game, especially in the playoffs.  Michigan’s record at that position has also churned out backs at the professional level, with four halfbacks drafted into the NFL since 2021.

As for Hiter, he and the Louisa Lions get their season underway at Godwin High in Richmond on the 28th of August.  For the Lions, Hiter plays outside linebacker on defense.  Michigan’s most recent halfback success, Kalel Mullings, was a converted linebacker before becoming their RB1.  He was drafted by the Titans in this year’s NFL Draft.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
