CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville mayor Juandiego Wade will serve a second term in that post. Wade, re-elected to his post on the City Council in November, was selected by the council at its annual organizational meeting Monday.
Councilor Natalie Oschrin will be the new vice mayor, taking over for Brian Pinkston, who lost his re-election bid to the council.
Wade, who was nominated for the position by Oschrin, said he appreciated the confidence of his colleagues and said he was eager to continue to build on the success of the last two years.
“I look forward to continue serving the city, representing the city, representing the Council, and I’ve enjoyed it,” Wade said.
He noted, “I have the capacity to do it more now that I’ve retired, although sometimes it doesn’t feel like, but I love the great city of Charlottesville and I love to serve it.”
Oschrin is in the middle of her first term on Council and said, “I feel like over the last two years I’ve developed a really great partnership with the people up here and with several key leaders in city staff.”
“I’m looking forward to not just moving Charlottesville forward, but moving Charlottesville forward in different ways and hope we can continue to push a robust agenda that continues to help make Charlottesville the place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
With Monday being the first City Council meeting of the year, City Manager Sam Sanders was the one who formally launched the meeting, with the choice of mayor and vice-mayor the first order of business.
Asked Friday if he’d be seeking another term as mayor, Wade told Cville Right Now, “I certainly have the capacity to do it and so, if my fellow counselors feel that they want to do that, then I’m ready to serve.”
