CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – With early voting starting Friday, the League of Women Voters of the Charlottesville Area is urging eligible voters to register or check their registration on Tuesday’s National Voter Registration Day. President Lisa Hilgartner told WINA Morning News the last day to register or update voter registration for the November 4 general election is Oct. 24. But if you want to vote at the earliest possible day this coming Friday, you’ll need to make sure registration is up to date this week.

“Now’s the time to check your registration, and if you just turned 18 or will be 18 by November 4 Election Day, you need to and register to vote,” Hilgartner said.

“It is so important.”

This year, Virginians are voting for the top three statewide offices: Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General. Also, all 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates are up for election. In the City of Charlottesville, there are a number of local offices on the ballot, but the only contested one is voting for three out of four running for School Board. Unlike the June Democratic primary, Charlottesville’s general election is not “ranked choice”. There are candidates running unopposed for two seats on City Council, and one each for Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff, Commissioner of Revenue, and Treasurer. Click here for a sample ballot.

In Albemarle County, the Rio District locally has a contested School Board election to go with an uncontested Board of Supervisors seat. Click here for a sample ballot.
Besides the state office races, the Jack Jouett District has uncontested races for Board of Supervisors and School Board. Click here for a sample ballot.
The Samuel Miller District has the state offices races and a contested Board of Supervisors race and uncontested School Board race. Click here for a sample ballot.
White Hall, Scottsville, and Rivanna districts have no local races, and have the state office races only. Click here for the White Hall sample ballot.

In the House of Delegates races, a few precincts in Albemarle County join Charlottesville City in the 55th House District uncontested race. Those are the Mountain View and Biscuit Run precincts in the Scottsville district, and the Free Bridge precinct in the Rivanna District. Click here for a Biscuit Run sample ballot, which is identical to those in Mountain View and Free Bridge.
All the rest of the Albemarle County precincts votes in the 54th House District race. Click here for what the sample ballot in those precincts looks like.

Hilgartner said, “If you changed your name or moved, you do have to re-register.”

To do so, you can go to your local registrar’s office or do it online clicking here.
