CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – State Police say a Newport News woman is dead in a DUI hit-and-literal-run crash on I-64 in Goochland County Thursday night. Sgt. Jessica Sheehan says 30-year old Darien Boutchyard of Newport, NC was driving a 2010 Dodge Challenger at a high rate of speed westbound 64 at mile marker 170 when it smashed into the rear of a 2019 Chevy Spark. A rear passenger in the Spark, 58-year old Mary Elizabeth Schell of Newport News, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. She was the mother of the driver, 22-year old Steven Schell, who was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Boutchyard and his passenger, 25-year old Kendra Lee Wright of Warrenton, attempted to flee the scene on foot, but were quickly caught be state troopers. Wright is charged with being drunk in public, but Boutchyard faces 4 charges including DUI manslaughter and DUI 3rd offense. The crash remains under investigation.
