CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A portion of Arrowhead Road in southern Albemarle County on Jan. 12 for bridge superstructure replacement, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced Monday.

Arrowhead Road will close at mailbox 1855 on the north end about 0.9 miles from Route 29 to mailbox 1987, which is about 0.7 miles on the south end from Route 29.

The existing steel beam timber deck superstructure, currently posted at an 18-ton weight limit, will be replaced with precast concrete beams capable of carrying all legal loads,” according to a VDOT release.

“Message boards were placed earlier last week at the bridge to notify motorists of the upcoming closure and construction dates,” the release said. “Additional message boards will remain in place on Route 745 near U.S. 29 during the closure to provide ongoing notice.”

VDOT said, “Local traffic will be able to access Route 745 from either side of the closure to reach properties within the project limits.”

Weather permitting, the bridge is expected to reopen to traffic Jan. 30.
