CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia football amassed 700 total yards for the first time in program history, fueled by a running game that William & Mary could not contain.

Harrison Waylee rushed for 151 yards and three scores, including a school-record 97-yard touchdown in the third quarter, as UVA pulverized the visiting Tribe, 55-16, on Saturday. Noah Vaughn added 101 yards on just eight carries as the Cavaliers piled up 379 rushing yards.

In all, Virginia (2-1) out-gained W&M, 700-263.

UVA quarterback Chandler Morris went 13 for 19 for 149 yards and a 3-yard touchdown pass to backup tight end John Rogers with 6:01 to play in the second quarter. That would be his final snap of the day, as Virginia went with reserves for most of the second half.

William & Mary quarterback Noah Brannock threw for 111 yards and ran for another 35 and a touchdown.

Punter Carter Boyd, whose father played at UVA and who grew up as a Cavaliers fan, kicked nine times, averaging 36.8 per punt, hit a long of 50 and pinned two inside the 20.

Saturday was UVA Strong Day, a remembrance of former players Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis and D’Sean Perry, who were shot and killed in 2022. Coach Tony Elliott opened his press conference by noting that the last time the Cavaliers scored 55 points, both Davis and Perry scored. That was a 2020 win over Abilene Christian.

The Cavaliers host Stanford on Saturday night for their ACC opener.
