CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)-  It was a career-defining weekend for Virginia swimming freshman Sara Curtis at the 2025 European Aquatic Short Course Swimming Championships in Poland.  Racing for Team Italy, Curtis played a part in earning seven medals over the length of the meet.

She swam on four relay teams, winning two golds, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.  Individually, she set a European record in the 50 backstroke, earning an individual gold medal.  Following that, she took silver in the 50 free and bronze in the 100 free.

One of the two relay golds, the 4×50 mixed race, was also a world record time, adding to her already impressive haul of accolades and accomplishments from the meet.

Football: Virginia football’s miraculous run came to an end in the ACC Championship game on Saturday night.  The Hoos, looking to earn win number eleven in the 2025 campaign along with the first-ever ACC title in program history, fell short in overtime against the Duke Blue Devils by a score of 27-20.   Virginia will end its campaign on Dec. 27, in the Gator Bowl against the Missouri Tigers

Basketball: Both Basketball squads took on the ACC/SEC Challenge last week, with the Virginia men battling Texas in Austin, and the women taking on Vanderbilt in Nashville.  A balanced team effort saw off Texas 88-69 in one of the only wins for the ACC in the challenge, but Vanderbilt proved too much for Virginia, 81-68.  The Women’s team got back to winning ways Sunday in their ACC opener, dominating Boston College on the road, 81-55.  The men wrapped up the week with a huge day for Jacari White, who had 25 points in the 86-73 victory.

More action: Wrestling took two comfortable victories in the Pocono mountains over the weekend, earning shutout wins over Bridgeport and East Stroudsburg, not losing a single bout throughout the two meets.  Squash took on the powerhouse Harvard squads, with both Virginia teams falling to them to start the weekend.  However, both Virginia squash units won against Cornell to end the trip, with the women’s team winning 6-3 and the Men shutting them out 9-0.  Finally, Gary Martin set a new school record in the 5000-meter dash at the Liberty Kickoff Indoor track meet in Lynchburg.
