Videos of the Day – week of 1/5/15

Happy New Year!  See above for a bonus video of NYE in Sydney…NYC is great & everything, but the ball drop seemed a bit lackluster this year, at least compared to these fireworks!?

Sorry for the lack of videos last week as Jeff was out sick (what a way to ring in 2015, ugh), but we’re clearing out our sinuses by crankin’ some sweet jams!

1/5 – Here’s a profile of new artist Zella Day.  To our BTC ears, she’s equal parts Lorde, Lana Del Rey & Lissie (not bad company at all, eh?).  She’s already starting to make a name for herself with the song “Hypnotic.”  Would not be surprised if she becomes a household name by the end of the year…

1/6 – I’m a sucker for those “power of rock’n’roll/fandom” videos, and this is one for a Top 5 BTC track of 2014, Death From Above 1979 “Trainwreck 1979!”

1/7 – In less than a month, Ingrid Michaelson plays a sold-out show at The Jefferson!  Here’s her “conquer your fears” video for “Afterlife” – 350,000 views & counting…

1/8 – speaking of Afterlife, today is Elvis’s birthday!  Thanks to Dave Grohl’s Sonic Highways, I recently was reminded that Elvis covered one of my all-time favorite songs, Tony Joe White’s “Polk Salad Annie”.  Here he is at Madison Square Garden from the Prince From Another Planet: 40th Anniversary Edition release

1/9 – this week brought news of Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers working with Jessica Lea Mayfield on a record of Elliott Smith songs!  Here’s a preview…
