Ebony Groove – Go-Go, R&B, Jazz

Formed in the late Fall of 1987 as a student-run pep band for the Charlottesville High School Basketball Team, Ebony Groove has been performing its own distinct blend of D.C. Go-Go, R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop for enthusiastic audiences all over Virgina and the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Comprised of founding members: drummer – Raymond Brooks, percussionists – Kyle Reaves, Curtis Kenney and Larry Johnson, keyboardist – Chris Redd, saxophone/vocals – Ivan Orr and vocalist – Jesse Turner, an Ebony Groove show is a high energy call and response musical dialog. Longtime Charlottesville music scene fixture Vic Brown often joins the band on bass with guitarist Tucker Rogers rounding out the rhythm section. Richmond based vocalists Daphne Brown and Xavier Shannon add their melodious harmonies to the mix.
