CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Hundreds of volunteers kicked off the 32nd annual United Way Laurence Richardson Day of Caring this morning with a big breakfast at JPJ. United Way of Greater Charlottesville Ravi Respeto says some 1700 volunteers are working more than 150 projects throughout Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson counties. In fact, she says nonprofits often put off project until this day as a way to save much-needed resources… and a way for the community to get involved and make a difference.
The United Way started this effort in 1992, and in 1999 named the day after WINA owner and President Larry Richardson.
In 2021, the value of the volunteers’ service in the Day of Caring was over $300,000.
