Arrests in two Charlottesville shots-fired incidents

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WINA) – Charlottesville detectives have made arrests in two shots-fired incidents.

One took place in the parking lot of the 7-11 and Emmet Street and Hydraulic Road.

The second took place inside a Harris Road home.

There were no injuries in either case.

May 8, 2019- Shooting Into a Vehicle

On May 8, 2019, at 11:40 p.m., patrol officers with the Charlottesville Police Department responded to the 7-11/Exxon gas station located at 1907 Emmet Street for the report of a shooting.

Witnesses reported a suspect fired a handgun into an occupied vehicle in the parking lot. Although the vehicle was occupied at the time, the occupants were not injured.

An investigation into this incident resulted in warrants being obtained for Octavius Deshawn Eubanks, age 25, a Charlottesville resident.

On May 16, 2019, Eubanks was arrested in the 1100 block of Leonard Street without incident. Eubanks is charged with the following offenses:

Virginia § 18.2-51 – Attempted malicious wounding (2 counts)
Virginia § 18.2-154 – Shooting at an occupied vehicle
Virginia § 18.2-282 – Brandishing a firearm
Virginia § 18.2-308.2 – Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Virginia § 18.2-53.1 – Use of a firearm in committing felony
Charlottesville Ordinance Sec. 33-6 – Discharge of a firearm

Eubanks is being held without bond at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail.

The Charlottesville Police Department would like to thank the U.S. Marshals for their assistance with this investigation.

May 10, 2019- Home Invasion/Shots Fired

On May 10, 2019, at 10:40 p.m. patrol officers with the Charlottesville Police Department responded to the 500 block of Harris Road for the report of an armed home invasion.

Officers learned that the suspect, who fled the scene prior to their arrival, fired numerous shots inside the residence. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

As a result of the subsequent investigation, warrants were obtained for 24-year-old Ramel Laquinn Smith, a Charlottesville resident. On May 15, 2019, Smith was arrested in Albemarle County.

Smith is charged with:
Virginia § 18.2-91 – Entering dwelling house, etc., with intent to commit other felony
Virginia § 18.2-51 – Attempted malicious wounding (2 counts)
Virginia § 18.2-308.2 – Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Virginia § 18.2-53.1 – Use of a firearm in committing felony
Virginia § 18.2-279 – Discharging a firearm within a building
Charlottesville Ordinance Sec. 33-6 – Discharge of a firearm

Smith is being held without bond at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail.
