City of Charlottesville News Release

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -The popular City Market will kick off its 2019 season on Saturday, April 6 from 8:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. in Downtown Charlottesville. The market features over 100 local vendors that sell a variety of fresh produce, herbs, plants, meats, crafts, baked goods and more.

For the upcoming 2019 season during the months of April and May, the City Market will open at 8:00 am. This adjustment of the opening time of the market is a pilot program for these two months to provide sufficient daylight in the early morning hours and respond to visitation trends. New for 2019 will be additional prepared food options along South 1st Street adjacent to the market. Food trucks operated by current Market vendors will be on hand, providing additional offerings to customers.

Continuing an offering from the past several years, residents will be able to drop-off their compostable materials at the City Market. The compost drop off location is near the market entrance at Water Street and 2nd Street. For more information on the composing program, please visit www.charlottesville.org/composting.

SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) will also continue to be accepted at the City Market. This program is administered by Market Central. For more information regarding SNAP at the City Market, visit www.marketcentralonline.org or visit the Market Central booth at the City Market.
