Fatal crash in Orange County

Virginia State Police Trooper M. Burgett is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Orange County. The crash occurred Sunday (August 2, 2020) at 6:15 p.m. on Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) at 7 tenths of a mile north of Route 20 (Constitution Highway).

A 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara was traveling north on Rte. 522 went it crossed a centerline, and collided head-on with a southbound 2020 Nissan Rogue.

The driver of the Suzuki, Timothy L. Crites, 43, of Louisa, Va., died at the scene of the crash as a result of his injuries. Crites was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Nissan, a 38-year-old male, of Orange, Va., suffered serious injuries and was transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment. The male was wearing a seatbelt.

Passengers in the Nissan, a 31-year-old female, and an 11-year-old female suffered serious injuries and were transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Alcohol is being considered a factor in the cause of the crash.

VSP’s Culpeper Division Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.

VSP was also assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Fire and EMS, and VDOT.
