A federal appeals court has declined to review the case of former governor Bob McDonnell, allowing the public corruption convictions to stand. The 15-member 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued the ruling Tuesday. A three-judge panel of the same court unanimously upheld the guilty verdicts in July. The full court says it will not reconsider the ruling from the panel.
McDonnell attorney Henry Asbill says the former governor will now try to have his case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. Asbill declined to say whether his client will have to report to prison.
McDonnell was sentenced to two years in prison. His wife Maureen was sentenced to one year and one day. Both have been free on bond while pursuing appeals.
