KNOXVILLE, TN (WINA) – The University of Virginia’s first football opponent for the 2023 season has now been placed on probation for some 200 NCAA violations. The Tennessee Volunteers have been put on five years probation and fined $8-million, but the NCAA stopped short of imposing a post-season ban. That’s because the University self-reported and has self-imposed some restrictions, and had already fired head coach Jeremy Pruitt under who the violations occurred.
The current coach, Josh Heupel, will have to deal with scholarship and visitation reductions during the probationary period.
Meanwhile, Pruitt with 18 violations of the highest-level rules will keep him out of college football for the foreseeable future.
The Hoos face the Vols in their season opener September 2 in Nashville.
