Livable Cville and UVa differ on Ivy and Copeley proposed high rise

CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – A showdown at this afternoon’s city planning commission between UVa, which opposes, and Livable Cville, which supports, a proposed 10-story apartment building at Ivy and Copeley.  A letter submitted on behalf of the University Friday by university architect Alice Raucher and Senior VP for Operations and state government, Colette Sheehy says ten stories is too high… the project includes only minimal support for bikes and pedestrians.

But a letter submitted this week by Livable Cville contends the project helps the city “meet its housing goals in a number of ways… creating housing for 600 people, mostly UVa students, taking away the pressure of displacement of low-income individuals in 10th & Page and Fifeville neighborhoods. And the developer would contribute $2-million to the city’s affordable housing fund.
