CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – University of Virginia Police have identified the victim of a weekend vehicle fire at Fontaine Research Park.

Crews arrived to find a pickup truck fully engulfed in flamesĀ in a parking area at approximately 5:18 a.m. Sunday, November 26.

“Upon preliminary review of this incident, no obvious evidence of foul play or criminal conduct was found,” according to a statement from University of Virginia Pollice. “Chandler Lee Goins, 19, of Barhamsville, VA, was found deceased by first responders. This case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact The University of Virginia Police Department at (434) 924-7166.”

His brothers tell WTVR-TV (Richmond) that Goins had come to Charlottesville for Saturday’s UVA-Virginia Tech football game.

According to his obituary, Goins was a 2022 graduate of New Kent County High School and a heavy equipment operator for Williamsburg-based Henderson, Inc., a Class A bonded contractor.

“He was a skilled contractor and a beloved member of the Henderson team,” the obituary reads. “Chandler left behind a legacy of hard work, contagious positivity, and a promising future that was cut short far too soon.”

A gofundme account has been set up to help the Goins family deal with financial stress.
